Support in the process to transfer activities from the Global Fund to the institutions of the National Essential Medicine Procurement System (SNAME) (2019-2022)
This EU-funded project aims to support the process to transfer the purchase, storage and distribution of essential medicines from the Global Fund in DR Congo to the National Essential Medicine Procurement System (SNAME), thus helping to improve the population’s access to quality essential medicines, particularly medicines for malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/Aids.
The objective of the technical assistance is therefore to:
- support the process of transferring the purchase and management of medicines from the Global Fund to the FEDECAME system;
- provide technical support for the operation of the Monitoring Committee, the coordination and monitoring body of the transfer.

Technical assistance for the project to support the pharmaceutical sector and the COMEG (Pharma-COMEG) (2012-2015)
In order to ensure that the Congolese people have access to good-quality, essential generic medicines at very affordable prices, and that are managed and prescribed in a rational manner, the specific objectives of this project are to provide technical support to the:
- Ministry of Health in the implementation of its pharmaceutical policy with regard to regulations, the promotion of essential generic medicines (EGMs) and their prescription at peripheral level;
- COMEG (Congolese central medical store for essential generic medicines) to build its capacity to manage and develop its activities in order to ensure the availability of EGMs throughout the country.

Study of pharmaceutical services in Zambia (2012)
In order to assess opportunities and challenges for the Zambian pharmaceutical system in purchasing and distributing pharmaceuticals, the EU Delegation to Zambia required a comprehensive assessment of the current situation.
The objective of the study was to: 1) carry out a comprehensive analysis of the pharmaceutical subsector, including an in depth assessment of economic aspects, logistics systems, information technology and regulatory capacity; 2) assess the opportunity for EU support in one or several of the mentioned areas; 3) identify themes that need to be followed up in the policy dialogue.

Recruitment of Technical Assistance for an Appraisal of Essential Drugs (2006)
Provided technical assistance and support to the Ministry of Health and Family Planning in the evaluation of different implementation phases of the FANOME scheme (financing and non-stop procurement of essential drugs) in order to ensure its sustainability at all levels. The objectives of the FANOME scheme were: a) to ensure sufficient availability of funds to guarantee the replacement of the stock of essential drugs in public health facilities; b) to facilitate access to health care for the entire population, including vulnerable groups; c) to increase the efficiency of community participation in management, following the principles of decentralisation and transparency.
